Item Usage of Arsenicum album 30C as a prophylactic medicine in healthcare workers of a COVID health centre: A report(Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, 2024) Thomas, RekhaBalakrishnan, ThankarajRajesh, AnuMathew, GeorgeThe homoeopathic medicine Arsenicum album 30C was recommended as prophylaxis by the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, along with general precautions during COVID-19 pandemic. A retrospective cohort study was conducted in Delhi, India, during May–August 2020 to evaluate the effectiveness of Arsenicum album 30C as prophylaxis for COVID-19 in a high-risk group of healthcare workers (HCWs). HCWs (n = 100) were categorised into two groups based on the number of days Arsenicum album 30C was administered during their duty: 7 days (N1 = 38) or 14 days (N2 = 62). Participants underwent COVID-19 testing (rapid antigen test/reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction) at the end of duty or earlier if symptoms developed. The incidence of a positive COVID-19 test and/or symptoms were primary outcome measures. The time taken for symptom resolution was the secondary outcome. At baseline, 89% of HCWs were at high risk, as per the World Health Organisation 2019 COV HCW risk categorization. At the end of duty, 98% of HCWs reported negative COVID-19 tests. No COVID-19-like symptoms were observed in the N2 group. In N1, four HCWs developed COVID-19-like symptoms, while two tested positive and recovered within 10 days.Item Usefulness of individualised homoeopathic medicine in Manic episode - A case report(2021) Moorthi, S KarunakaraRadhika, PMuraleedharan, KCIntroduction: Mania is a form of mood disorder initially, characterised by elevated mood, insomnia, increased libido and grandiosity. More severe forms develop elation and grandiose delusions. Case Summary: A patient reported in the Out Patient Department with symptoms of increased delusions for 3 weeks. The consultant psychiatrist diagnosed it as a case of bipolar affective disorder, current episode manic with psychotic features. Young mania rating scale (YMRS) scored 38 at the time of admission. Lachesis mutus 200 was prescribed initially and later Lycopodium clavatum 200 was prescribed, as the symptom picture changed. Overall improvement was noticed clinically and in YMRS after treatment. In this case, individualised homoeopathic treatment has shown a positive role for the remission of manic episode with psychotic features without the support adjunctive therapy or conventional medication in the current episode.Item Venous ulcer and stasis dermatitis treated with classical homoeopathy: A case series(2021) Mahesh, SeemaMallappa, MaheshShah, VirajVithoulkas, GeorgeIntroduction: Chronic venous disease is responsible for a great deal of the global disease burden due to its prevalence and socio-economic impact. Non-invasive methods of dealing with the resulting ulcers, that negatively impact mobility, are desirable. Cases Summary: We present five cases of stasis dermatitis and venous ulcers of varying severity, treated with individualised classical homoeopathy showing progress as recorded with the comprehensive classification system for chronic venous disorders (clinical aetiology anatomical pathophysiology) score and venous clinical severity score. There is a need to further investigate scientifically, the role of classical homoeopathy in peripheral vascular diseases.Item Understanding the role of homoeopathic preparation of Berberis vulgaris in mitigation of sodium oxalate? induced hyperoxaluria: An experimental approach(2020) Tamilarasan, BhavaniKarthikeyan, PorkodiKannan, PugazhendhiPeriandavan, KalaiselviK. Manchanda, RajKhurana, AnilBackground: Hyperoxaluria and calcium oxalate crystal deposition in the kidneys lead to overproduction of reactive oxygen species, resulting in the development of oxidative stress and renal injury. At the cellular levels, mitochondria and NADPH oxidase involved in reactive oxygen species production play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of hyperoxaluria induced renal injury. Objective: The objective was to investigate the therapeutical effect of homoeopathic drug Berberis vulgaris, a potent antioxidant, upon regulation of NADPH oxidase against acute high grade sodium oxalate induced hyperoxaluria in rats. Materials and Methods: Hyperoxaluria was induced in male Wistar rats by administering a single dose of sodium oxalate (70 mg/kg body weight) intraperitoneally, and the treatment groups were pre treated with homoeopathic drug Berberis vulgaris 6c (20 ?l/100 g of body weight) ultra low dose for 7 days. Results: Berberis vulgaris significantly reduces hyperoxaluria induced oxidative stress and restores antioxidant enzyme activities in kidney tissue. Histological analysis depicted that Berberis vulgaris treatment decreases renal epithelial damage and inflammation and restored normal glomerular morphology. Furthermore, immunoblotting analyses of NADPH oxidase revealed significant increased activity in the renal tissue of hyperoxaluric rats when compared to that of control rats. This has been brought back to normal by Berberis vulgaris treatment. Conclusion: Thus, our results emphasised that the Homoeopathy drug Berberis vulgaris has been effective in ameliorating sodium oxalate induced acute hyperoxaluria in Wistar rats by modulating mitochondrial oxidative stress through the inhibition of NADPH oxidase.Item Tinea cruris treated with individualised homoeopathic medicine – An evidence-based case report(2023) Gupta, YogeshwariSharma, ArvindSharma, SamridhiIntroduction: Tinea cruris, also commonly known as jock itch, is a skin infection caused by dermatophytes which are pathogenic fungi affecting genital, pubic, perineal and perianal areas. Tinea cruris more commonly affects men and affects adults more than children. Conventional management involves the use of topical antifungal agents and oral therapy in extensive cases. Case Summary: A case of tinea cruris in a 30-year-old male patient is reported, which was effectively treated with individualised homoeopathic medicine. Based on the totality of symptoms, the homoeopathic medicine Natrum muriaticum in 200C potency was prescribed as the first dose and improvement was observed in subsequent follow-ups. In this case, the causal attribution to the prescribed medicine was established by the Modified Naranjo Criteria Score. This evidenced-based case suggests that tinea cruris can be successfully managed with individualised homoeopathic treatmentItem Tinea Faciei treated with constitutional Homoeopathic Medicine using Vithoulkas Compass: Two evidence-based case reports(2022) Shukla, InduIntroduction: Tinea faciei, also known as tinea faciale or facial ringworm, is a common infection of the skin on the face caused by a fungus. In general, tinea infections are quite common, but facial ringworm infections happen mostly in teens and young adults or anyone with an immunosuppressive disease. Management involves the use of topical antifungals in limited diseases, and oral therapy is usually reserved for more extensive cases. These agents have side effects, sometimes even severe. Cases Summary: Two diagnosed cases of tinea faciei, treated with individualized constitutional homeopathic medicines, are presented. Both patients complained of red, itchy rashes on their faces, which were treated using homeopathic medicine. The cases were documented photographically at the onset and the end of treatment. Both patients went into remission following treatment, and long-term follow-up suggested that the therapy remained efficacious long after cessation of treatment. No significant side effects were noted. Homeopathic medicines may be effective for the treatment of tinea, without any side effects. More research on the subject is warranted.Item Tinea capitis treated with homoeopathic medicine Pulsatilla nigricans: A case report(2023) Garg, KhushbooBansal, DivyaMittal, AayushIntroduction: Tinea infection is a common complaint encountered in day-to-day practice with increasing incidence, especially in countries such as India over the past decade. Tinea capitis is predominantly a disease of prepubertal children characterised by lesions of variable morphology on the scalp associated with itching, erythema, signs of inflammation and hair loss. Prompt recognition and treatment are necessary to prevent its spread due to its contagious nature, associated hair loss and the resultant psychological impact on social life. Individualised homoeopathic treatment has a significant scope in treating and combating such conditions cost-effectively through the totality of symptoms. Case Summary: A 12-year-old girl presented at an outpatient clinic with erythematous and circular lesions with itching, burning pain and hair fall. Pulsatilla nigricans 200 was prescribed initially and later Pulsatilla 1M was prescribed as per the homoeopathic principles. The case was followed up fortnightly for 6 months. The patient was successfully treated with marked improvement in signs and symptoms (especially during the rainy season, which is the usual time for aggravation of tinea infections) within 6 months with no aggravation and adverse events. The Modified Naranjo Criteria Score was used to establish the causal attribution to the prescribed medicine, with a total score of 9. This case report suggests that individualised homoeopathic medicines are useful in the treatment of tinea capitis.Item The role of homoeopathic treatment in women suffering from post-caesarean backache: An open observational clinical trial(2019) Nath, ArunavaDe, MahadebSingh, SubhasKundu, NiveditaMichael, JamesSadhukhan, SatarupaContext: An open observational trial was carried out at National Institute of Homoeopathy, India, to assess the possible effects of individualised Homoeopathy in individuals suffering from post caesarean backache. Aim: The aim of the study was to find the role of homoeopathic treatment in individuals suffering from post caesarean backache. Methods: Fifty subjects were enrolled. The Short Form McGill Pain Questionnaire (SF MPQ) and Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability Questionnaire (ODQ) were used as the outcome measures, assessed at baseline and after 3 months of treatment. Medicines prescribed followed homoeopathic principles. Non-parametric Wilcoxon signed rank test was applied to compare the dependent observations. P < 0.05 two tailed was considered statistically significant. Results: Five subjects dropped out and 45 completed the trial. Intention to treat sample (n = 50) was analysed. There were statistically significant reductions in pain rating index percentage score (median 83.3 (IQR 66.7 to 100) vs. median 66.7 (IQR 33.3 to 71.1), P < 0.001); visual analogue scale score (median 7.0 (IQR 6.0 to 8.0) vs. median 6.0 (IQR 4.8 to 7.0), P < 0.001); present pain index score (median 3.0 (IQR 2.0 to 3.0) vs. median 2.0 (IQR 2.0 to 3.0), P = 0.019) and ODQ% score (median 44.0 (IQR 39.5 to 50.0) vs. median 39.0 (IQR 31.9 to 44.0), P < 0.001) over 3 months of treatment. Natrum muriaticum (n = 11, 22%); Staphysagria (n = 8, 16%); Bryonia alba and Rhustoxicodendron (n = 6 each, 12%) and Pulsatilla nigricans (n = 4, 8%) were prescribed frequently. Conclusion: Indicated homoeopathic medicines reduced SF MPQ and ODQ scores. Further randomised trials are warranted with enhanced methodological rigour.Item Tinea cruris managed with a single dose of individualised homoeopathic medicine: A case report(Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, 2024) Sivakumar, KIntroduction: Tinea cruris is an infection of the skin over groins by a species of dermatophyte. It is a common ringworm infestation that affects the groin and is caused by Trichophyton rubrum, characterised by red, itchy erythematous plaques extending from the Groin and flexures onto the thighs, buttocks and perianal region of the skin. More than eight million people visit primary care physicians annually to treat tinea-related symptoms. Topical agents are the mainstay in conventional medicine. However, a holistic approach with Homoeopathy for treating tinea cruris can make a difference in terms of both cure and preventing relapse. Case Summary: A 30-year-old male presented with a ring-like red erythematous lesion on the buttocks and perianal region of skin with severe itching. The case was diagnosed clinically as tinea cruris. The patient was treated with individualised homoeopathic medicine Sulphur 1M in a single dose and followed up for 6 months. There was a complete disappearance of tinea cruris lesions, as documented as photographic evidence, without any adverse effects and recurrence of lesions in the follow-up period. In this case, the outcome and causal attribution of the changes were assessed using the Modified Naranjo Criteria for Homoeopathy. The score was +10 showing the positive relationship between the intervention and the outcome. This case shows the positive role of individualised homoeopathic medicine in the management of tinea cruris.Item The usefulness of homoeopathic medicines for infertility – A case series(2022) Rajachandrasekar, BhuvaneswariSunny, AnitaIntroduction: Infertility is the inability to achieve a successful pregnancy within 2 years of regular unprotected sexual intercourse. About 8–12% of couples of reproductive age experience infertility worldwide. Infertility may result from any underlying pathology or unexplained causes and can cause severe emotional disturbances in both partners. The complexity and cost of conventional treatment may not be affordable for a majority of people. Case Summary: Three cases of infertility with an underlying pathology successfully treated with standalone homoeopathic treatment are reported. These cases presented with a structural deformity as a cause of infertility. The patients partners were also given homoeopathic medicines in all the cases. The first case showed a long liquefaction time on semen analysis and the female partner had a unilateral tubal block. The second case investigation reported ipsilateral varicocele and small-sized testes with oligospermia. In the third case, the female had polycystic ovarian syndrome with a sub-septate uterus and multinodular goitre. All three cases were treated with individualised homoeopathic medicine. All these cases were followed up regularly and they conceived within 6 months of treatment.
