Item 269 years of Homoeopathy: The healing continues(Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, 2024) Kaushik, SubhashItem A 15?mm urinary calculus expelled with homoeopathic medicine : A case report(2021) Rai, SeemaVineetha, KRIntroduction: Renal or ureteric colic is an acute and severe pain caused by obstruction in the ureter. It usually occurs in the narrower areas of the ureter. It can be associated with severe pain, nausea, vomiting, urinary infections, haematuria, hydronephrosis, etc. Case Summary: A case of 15 mm calculus, lodged at the right ureterovesicular junction, presented with severe cutting pain extending downwards from the right lumbar region to the right groin area. The patient had severe pain at the conclusion of urination. Another calculus of size 10 mm in the lower calyx of the left kidney and 3.4 mm concretion in the right kidney was also detected. The homoeopathic medicine Sarsaparilla was given on the basis of totality of symptoms for 3 days. The pain reduced in 3 days and subsequent to an acute colicky pain and some bleeding, on the 11th day, the stone was expelled. This case report shows the potential of Homoeopathy in cases of large urinary calculi.Item A case of haemorrhoids in a 12?year?old boy(2014) Rath, PadmalayaKaur, HarleenHaemorrhoids is a very common condition that a physician would encounter in day to day practice. However, haemorrhoids in children is not as common. The only known treatment for the condition in conventional medicine is surgical excision, which is generally not favoured at this age. The case reported here is that of an internal haemorrhoids in a 12?year?old child, who was treated successfully with homoeopathic medicine. The patient has been observed for more than 2 years without recurrence. Photographs were taken before and after treatment to record changes in the condition. Non?recurrence of complaint in the past two and half years suggests that a ‘near permanent’ cure is achievable through individualised homoeopathic treatment.Item A Case of Hyperprolactinaemia(2004) Gupta, GirishItem A Case report of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in preschool children treated with individualised constitutional homoeopathic medicine(2024) Moorthi, KarunakaraLalitha, KSIntroduction: Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neuropsychiatric disorder affecting children of all ages, including preschoolers, adolescents, and adults worldwide. ADHD patients often face challenges in academic and social settings. Notably, pre-school children are more likely to exhibit hyperactive-impulsive symptoms than school-age children. Research on treating pre-schoolers with ADHD is limited compared to older children. This case report demonstrates the treatment of ADHD in pre-schoolers using individualised homoeopathic remedies. Case Summary: A 4-year-old boy presented with a 2-year history of symptoms, such as restlessness, easy distractibility and aggressive behaviour. After assessing the case, the institute’s psychiatric consultant diagnosed it as ADHD, based on the DSM-5 criteria. The homoeopathic treatment with Medorrhinum 200C and 1M and Tarentula hispanica 200C resulted in improvement in his academic performance, interpersonal relationships, social interactions and behaviour, both at home and school. The ADHD Rating Scale score, also decreased gradually. The homoeopathic remedies were administered at monthly intervals for two years, and there was no symptom relapse after recovery. Further research with well-designed studies is needed to establish evidence for treating pre-school children with ADHD.Item A case report of hyperuricaemia with nephrolithiasis treated with homoeopathy(2021) Gautam, PoojaIntroduction: Hyperuricaemia is serum urate concentration exceeding the limit of solubility, leading to its precipitation and predisposing the affected persons to gout. The increased level of uric acid in urinary excretion can also lead to nephrolithiasis. It has also been implicated as an indicator for diseases such as metabolic syndrome, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease and chronic renal disease. Whereas homoeopathic literature enlists many medicines for this condition, there is a paucity of evidence based published studies. Case Summary: The case presented here reported with the complaint of renal stone secondary to high serum uric acid levels. A single homoeopathic medicine Lycopodium was prescribed after thorough case taking which led to improvement in subjective symptoms and objectively reflecting in gradually decreasing levels of serum uric acid after elimination of stone. During the course of treatment, old symptoms also re appeared depicting improvement in accordance with Hering’s law of cure. The Modified Naranjo Criteria score after treatment was 8, which explicitly shows the positive causal attribution of the individualised homoeopathic medicine Lycopodium in this case. Homoeopathic treatment has shown favourable results in this case and demonstrates the scope of Homoeopathy in such cases.Item A case report of prurigo nodularis responsive to Homoeopathy(2020) Mahajan, NidhiChaturvedi, DeekshaAlaria, AnitaPal, GirendraIntroduction: Prurigo nodularis (PN) is a chronic, benign neurodermatitis. The exact cause is unknown. In majority, cases of PN do not have a complete resolution of the nodules even with treatment. Case Summary: Here, a diagnosed case of PN of an 18 year old female with a history of 1 year old eczematous lesion is presented. On the basis of the totality of symptoms, homoeopathic medicine Natrium muriaticum was prescribed and gradually the patient showed stable improvement in the domain of signs and symptoms and reached remission by the end of 4 months. There was no recurrence over the next 1 year. This case report evidently suggests that Homoeopathy can serve as a possible treatment option for the management of PN cases.Item A Comparative Study of The Symptoms Produced In The Region of Mouth By Some Of The Drugs Clinically Verified(2006) Jethani, AnjuKaushik, SubhashSingh, KrishnaItem A group of homoeopathic medicines for COVID?19: A systematic review of clinical features(2021) Escalante, Horacio Miguel De La LuzHasan, NazmulDelgado, Adriana GonzalezSoto, Salvador GonzalezVivas, Jessica MariaGarcíaBackground: Historically, several homoeopathic medicines are known to have attributed a significant role in the control and management of infectious epidemic diseases. Objectives: This study aimed to compile a list of prospective homoeopathic medicines for the treatment and prophylaxis of the COVID 19 epidemic by conducting a systematic review and statistical analysis of clinical characteristics of this emerging coronavirus disease. Materials and Methods: A systematic review protocol was developed according to the reporting items of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta Analyses statement. Articles for review were selected from PubMed, World Health Organization database, MedRxiV, and BioRxiv. Studies in English and simplified Chinese from December 2019 to March 26 2020 were included. Data on clinical characteristics, laboratory and CT chest results of COVID 19 were extracted and analysed. Several symptoms and their intensity were statistically analysed. Results: Seventy three studies were included. Amongst COVID 19 patients, fever (119.869 ± 24.425 [95% confidence intervals: 71.149–168.589]), dry cough (91.028 ± 19.555 [52.007–130.050]) and dyspnoea (24.594 ± 5.949 [12.722–36.465]) were the most common symptoms. Leucopenia (16.06 ± 5.07 [5.95–26.18]) in blood, ground glass opacity (62.23 ± 18.82 [24.74–99.72]), patchy (21.48 ± 12.36 [3.13–46.11]) and consolidation (18.67 ± 9.18 [0.373–36.968]) in the lungs were observed. The selected sign and symptoms were repertorised, which resulted in a list of multiple homoeopathic medicines as potential medicines for COVID 19, led by Arsenic Album (94.59%) and Bryonia alba (91.89%). Conclusion: Considering the current clinical manifestations, this is a pioneer study related to finding a plausible list of homoeopathic medicines that might help the profession in the treatment as well as to select a prophylactic of COVID 19 disease.Item A HIV Infected Carrier Under Homoeopathic Treatment(2005) Dey, S.KItem A Note On Comparative Pharmacognosy of Vanda Roxburghii And Acampe Papillosa (Fam. Orchidaceae)(1981) Chaudhury, K.GhoshVegetative parts of V. roxburghii which enters into composition of indigenous medicinal preparation for various diseases though morphologically similar to that of A. Papillosa can be distinguished from the latter by various anatomical characters and appearance of powdered form in long wave ultraviolet light. Marked differences are noted in epidermal characters of leaf, arrangement of vascular elements in aerial root and organisation of cells in leaf whole mount.Item A Pilot Study on The Effect of Arsenicum Album In Alcohol Dependents(1994) Gopinadhan, S.Balachandran, V.A.A study was undertaken to find out the effect of Arsenicum album in alcohol dependents at Central Research lnstitute for Homoeopathy, Kottayam, in the years 1991-93. This Institute has been actively engaged in the research work on Behavioural problems including Alcoholism and Drug addiction. ln Homoeopathic literature many drugs have been mentioned for Alcoholism, but it is in the Boger- Boenninghausen's Characteristics and Repertory that alcoholism has been mentioned as a Behavioural disorder and Arsenicum album has been given as the most important drug for it. Taking this into consideration Arsenicum album was given to some patients without considering their individualities and was found very effective in producing an aversion to alcohol. This is only a pilot/empirical study and it will be beneficial to undertake further detailed and a controlled trial.Item A preliminary study to evaluate analgesic and behavioural activities of the homoeopathic drug, Anagallis arvensis in rats(2010) Sundaram, E.N.Singh, K.P.Reddy, K. PratapReddy, P. UmamaheshwaraNair, K.R.JRaveendar, Ch.Nayak, C.In homeopathy, Anagallis arvensis is used in the traetment of skin rashes, warts and urinary tract infections, but not for the treatment of diseases of central nervous system unlike its use in Indian medicine foa mania and other derangements of the nervous system. In the present preliminary study, the effect of different potencies (3x, 6x, 12x and 30C) of A. Arvensis administered at a daily dose of 0.5ml/rat/day had been examined and were tested for their analgesic (hot plate, ice plate and Randall-selitto assay) and behavioural (rota rod and open fiels assay) activities, 30 minutes after administration of drug on tenth,, twentyth and thirtyth day of the study. All the four different potencies (3x, 6x,12x and 30C) of A. arvensis had increased the latency time required to raise and to lick the hind paw for thermal sensation on hot plate test and for cold sensation on Ice plate test. They had also increased the quantum of threshold pressure to mechanically induced pain on Randall-selitto assay but depressed the motor coordination and locomotor activity. The analgesic and behavioural effects of these potencies on tenth day was maximum but subsided on twentyth day and thirtyth day of the study. The preliminary results suggest that A. arvensis may be screened for CNS depressive property on appropriate animal model in order to arrive at a meaningful conclusion.Item A Probe In Developing Urge For Drug Aversion In Opioid Addicts By Using Homoeopathic Opium Alkaloids Preparation - A Hypothesis(1991) Naik, S.KBandopadhyay, G.Bose, SukumarItem A prospective observational study to ascertain the role of homeopathic therapy in the management of diabetic foot ulcer(2012) Nayak, C.Singh, VikramSingh, KrishnaSingh, HariGupta, JayaAli, Mohd.ShahidPonnam, Hima BinduBackground: The risk for lower extremity amputation (LEA) in patients with diabetic foot ulcer is high, and high recurrence rates of foot ulcers pose a risk that the amputations will be repeated. While the incidence rates of diabetic foot ulcers are often poorly documented, such as is the case in India, the heavy strain of the disease on health care budgets can easily be felt the world over. The high cost of the treatment of foot ulcers causes many patients to neglect needed care, resulting in amputations. The present observational study of diabetic foot ulcer was undertaken for the purpose of deriving a group of useful homeopathic medicines for the treatment of this condition, hopefully revealing a cost effective means of reducing the incidence of foot amputations. Method: A prospective observational study was conducted by the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy at its Drug Standardization Extension Unit, Hyderabad, from October 2005 to September 2009. One hundred and fifty-six (156) patients with diabetic foot ulcer in the age group of above thirty years from both sexes were screened and eighty-one patients were enrolled as per the pre-set inclusion and exclusion criteria. Out of eighty-one cases enrolled only sixty-three cases completed the follow up. The remainder of the cases were excluded. Homeopathic medicines prescribed to the enrolled patients were limited to a group of fifteen pre-defined trial medicines. The improvement of the cases was assessed basing upon the diabetic foot ulcer assessment score, before and after treatment, on a prescribed format devised by the council (Table 1) and by periodic photographs. Results: The difference in the mean of the ulcer assessment score was found to be statistically significant (P=0.000, <0.05) after the treatment with trial medicines. In only one case, the ulcer assessment score showed no significant improvement from the baseline. Silicea (n=22), Sulphur (n=11), Lycopodium (n=10), Arsenic album (n=8), Phosphorus (n=8) were found to be the most useful among the fifteen pre-identified trial medicines. Conclusion: This was an observational study with positive results; however, it is difficult to attribute the positive results to homeopathic therapy alone as the dressing of the ulcer and ancillary measures of themselves often eventuate in ulcer resolution. Further RCT corroboration is recommended for validation of the results.Item A Proving of Kali Carb(1979)Item A randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled and parallelarm trial to assess the effect of homoeopathic medicines on chronic rhinosinusitis(Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, New Delhi, 2023) Oberai, PraveenKaushik, SubhashRamteke, SunilBackground: Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a significant health problem impacting health related quality of life. Objectives: This study assesses the efficacy of individualised homoeopathy (IH) in LM potency in CRS. Methods: A randomised, double-blind and placebo-controlled trial on patients with CRS was undertaken at four institutes, from July 2012 to December 2013. Eligible participants were randomised to IH in LM-potencies (n = 60) or a similar placebo (n = 60). Primary outcome was change in the total symptoms score (TSS) (area under the curve [AUC]) and in sinus nasal outcome test 22 over 3 months. Intention-to-treat approach was used for analyses. Results: TSS AUC over 3 months was less in the homoeopathy group compared to the placebo group but was statistically insignificant (IH: 1303.1 ± 612.2; P = 1380.1 ± 811.8; 95% CI: ?336.9, 182.9; P = 0.56). The absolute difference in TSS from baseline had a statistically significant difference at day 60 (mean difference = 4; 95% CI: 0.3–7.7, P = 0.03) and day 75 (mean difference =3.8; 95%: 0.1–7.5, P = 0.04) favouring homoeopathy. The global assessment by the investigator and patient showed satisfactory improvement at day 60 mean difference = 0.6, 95% CI: 0.27–0.86, P = 0.0001 and day 75 mean difference = 0.5, 95% CI: 0.27–0.84, P = 0.0001, respectively. A positive trend was observed in rhinoscopy score in homoeopathy group (mean difference: 0.9, 95% CI: ?0.00–1.8, p=0.05). There was no difference in computed tomography scan scores of paranasal sinuses between the groups. Conclusion: This study provides a positive trend to support the effect of individually selected homoeopathic remedies in patients with CRS and warrants further evaluation.Item A randomized controlled trial in the management of alcohol dependence: Homoeopathic vs. standard Allopathic treatment(2014) Central Council for Research in HomoeopathyBackground and Objective: Alcoholism (alcohol dependence) is a chronic illness marked by dependence on alcohol consumption. It interferes with health, social as well as family life and job responsibilities. Based on the experience of an observational single?arm study with positive outcomes, this protocol is being implemented to compare the effectiveness of homoeopathic intervention with standard allopathic treatment. Materials and Methods: This will be a randomized controlled open?label comparative trial. Patients will be randomized to receive either Homoeopathy or Allopathy group of intervention using computerized randomization chart. The period of treatment cum follow up shall be for 1 year. Supportive counseling shall be given to both the groups. Primary outcome will be more than 50% reduction in ‘Severity of Alcohol Dependence (SADQ)’ rating scale in comparison to baseline at the exit of treatment of 1 year and secondary outcomes will comprise of changes in World Health Organisation quality of life -BREF(WHOQOL-BREF) at baseline and at end of the study, management of detoxification shall be done using Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment for Alcohol Scale, Revised (CIWA?Ar). Further changes in alcohol consumption pattern in terms of quantity and frequency shall be assessed. Discussion: The study shall help in designing further rigorous randomized controlled trial (RCT)/pragmatic study with homoeopathic intervention.Item A Report On Moscow Homoeopathic Conference(1990) Mohan, DevendraItem A retrospective study of homoeopathic treatment in patients with heel pain with or without Calcaneal Spur(2017) Parveen, SuraiaBackground: Heel pain is a common clinical condition which significantly affects the quality of life. It is frequently associated with calcaneal spur (CS). Despite its high prevalence, the optimal treatment remains unclear. The aim and objective of this study is to evaluate the extent of CS in heel pain; correlation of CS with some sociodemographic and health?related factors; and outcome of homoeopathic treatment over a period of 6 months. Methodology: It was a retrospective study done at Dr. Anjali Chatterjee Regional Research Institute for Homoeopathy, Kolkata. Samples were selected from the patients referred for ankle X?ray from August 2014 to July 2015 for nontraumatic heel pain. Their files were traced from outpatient department, and treatment records were reviewed over the next 6 months. Results: Totally 92 patients, 70 women and 22 men, had undergone lateral X?ray of ankle for nontraumatic heel pain, of which 76 (82.6%) patients had CS. Extent of CS was found to be higher in case of females, older age, overweight, and profession of housemaid or manual labor. Homoeopathic treatment showed positive response in nearly 75% of the CS patients. The most useful medicines were Calcarea flouricum, Rhus toxicodendron, Ledum palustre, and Aranea diadema. Conclusion: CS was found in nearly 80% of patients presenting with heel pain, which showed association with female sex, overweight, increasing age, and profession requiring heel stress. Homoeopathic treatment was effective in 3/4th of CS patients, and Rhus toxicodendron and Calcarea flouricum are the two most commonly used medicines.
