Proper packaging prevents contamination, preserves potency, and ensures patient safety. Hence, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) had received the proposal from the Ministry of Ayush for the development of BIS standards for packaging material used for homoeopathic medicinal products (HMP). One such packaging is plastic containers. Accordingly, IS 19084: 2024 was developed and notified, which specifies requirements for plastic containers and closures used for packaging, storage, and dispensing of homoeopathic pharmaceutical preparations in solid and liquid dosage forms. This paper reports the details of the standard and the methodology adopted for its formulation.
